Our copywriting process

Through our information-gathering copywriting process, questions can emerge that you may not have considered internally.

In gaining an understanding of your business, we have absolute clarity on the topic so the content will be crystal clear to the end reader.

How our copywriting process works

1. Consultation on work scope

The first step is to organise a meeting to understand your business and priorities. This might normally take around an hour and involve your internal project ‘owners’.

This is when we get a clear idea on the work scope, how to gain any further information, and establish what interviews are needed with the relevant subject matter experts.

2. Writing from a blank sheet

It may be that you need a report or document created from a blank sheet. In this case, there will likely be a series of consultation meetings with the relevant internal experts to gain the information we need – combined with any supporting material, facts or figures you can provide.

The consultation is crucial for us to understand what you want to achieve from the end report, and equally for us to put forward our thoughts and experience which could add value to the dialogue.

3. Working from existing content

You may have a report drafted to a greater or lesser degree which you need us to develop further. This can be a more practical option for companies that know what they want to say but do not have the time and/or resources to produce the result they need.

You can write a draft – even a rough text – and then hand it across to us. There may be some additional consultation meetings involved, depending on the need.

4. Setting the tone

If you have an established style guide, it will be a key reference to locking in the tone of voice. You may also want to discuss any previous published content you have, and what you feel are the stronger or weaker aspects. When contributing our own thoughts, it will always in the context of your considerations.

Once establishing a firm understanding of the scope and brief, we write a short upfront section to agree on and lock in the style of the project moving forward.

5. Review and delivery

This is the point to establish how the review process will work. For larger documents, we recommend a ‘circular’ process, where you review sections already completed while we work on further sections. It means you can review pages in smaller batches and we both stay aligned – although the upfront section you approve should act as a ‘blueprint’ as the project develops.

To discuss any copywriting requirements, including a review of any existing content you may have, please contact us for a no-obligation call.
